If you are longing for a good night’s sleep, the new sleep lab at Inter-Lakes Health may be able to help.

“We all need sleep,” says Roderic Kenyon, ILH’s respiratory therapist and sleep lab manager. “But a lot of people don’t get good quality sleep. We can help fix that.” Kenyon, a Registered Polysomnography Technologist, says there are nearly ninety sleep disorders. The most common include sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome, insomnia, and narcolepsy. When a sleep disorder is suspected, Kenyon performs testing to determine treatment.

The ILH sleep lab is designed to provide a comfortable night’s sleep. The rooms are more like hotel rooms than a typical hospital room. In addition to oversized beds and comfortable surroundings, there is a shower so patients can go directly to work following their sleep study. Plus, the lab has state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment.

Most of the sleep studies take place during the night, but daytime tests are available to those who primarily work during the night. Data is collected while the person sleeps. Then, a sleep specialist analyzes the data to determine the best treatment.

Kenyon has extensive experience in respiratory care and sleep lab management. He scored in the top one percentile of the worldwide exam conducted by the Board of Registered Polysomnography Technologists.
